Description

Paralititan was a massive plant-eater (herbivore) that lived in the late Cretaceous period, between about 99 and 94 million years ago. It lived in Egypt, in a region that at the time was filled with tidal flats and mangrove swamps and lay on the shores of the Tethys Ocean.

Paralititan was around 85 feet (26 meters) long. It was heavily built and probably weighed around 65 tons. It had the longest known humerus (upper arm bone) of any known Cretaceous Sauropod, at 5½ feet (1.7 meters).

Paralititan was a contemporary of, and lived in roughly the same areas as Carcharodontosaurus, so it is possible that Carcharodontosaurus may have been one of its predators. Paralititan's primary defense against predators was of course its great size, but it is possible that, like some other Titanosaurs (for example Saltasaurus), Paralititan may have had some bony armor plates (osteoderms) embedded in its skin.
