Description
Beautfully modelled Iguanodon from a range of scale prehistoric model toys made by CollectA. This Iguanodon is hand-painted and finely detailed. A great addition for any prehistoric or dinosaur fanatic!
Named in 1825, Iguanodon was only the second dinosaur to be formally recognized by science. Large accumulations of skeletons have been discovered in Belgium and other areas of Europe, suggesting that this bulky plant-eater roamed in herds. Iguanodon had a long snout ending in a broad, toothless beak, which it used for cropping leaves. The large thumb spike may have been used to help pull vegetation toward the mouth, or possibly as a defensive weapon.
Later relatives of Iguanodon, known as hadrosaurs or duck-billed dinosaurs, went on to become the dominant plant-eaters of the northern continents until the end of the Mesozoic Era roughly 66 million years ago.
Dinosaurtime has some of the very best dinosaur toys, prehistoric animal toys, replica dinosaur palaeontological models, plush dinosaurs and other great gift ideas. Have a browse and see what incredible creatures you can find!
